Last season’s beaten Champions League finalists are one step away from returning to have another go at becoming champions of Europe for the first time since 2001. Standing between them and a place at Wembley is Barcelona.

Josep Guardiola

The interesting twist to this fixture is that this season represents the gap in one man’s career between leaving Barca and taking over Bayern. That man, of course, is Josep Guardiola. From the moment Pep announced he would step down as La Blaugrana’s boss, betting went into overdrive about where his future would take him. At one point Chelsea seemed to be the best bet, then the betting markets changed and Manchester City seemed his most likely destination, odds were shortened on AC Milan at one point and then, out of the blue almost, Bayern Munich announced it was they who had wooed him.

In the meantime, the German club have clinched the Bundesliga for the 23rd time – something which hadn’t been worth betting on for a long time given the nature of their lead at the top. They have also, under the management of Juup Heynckes, advanced to the semi-final of the holy grail of competitions in Europe. Since the start of the 2012/13 edition, betting on Bayern Munich to win the competition has maintained it’s value. Even now, in the last four, they remain priced as third favourites.

Having been massive favourites to topple Chelsea in the betting markets last season, they will carry that hurt of losing with them this year. Last season betting also suggested they wouldn’t get past Real Madrid, they did though and, despite being bettered by Barcelona in the odds for their upcoming two-legged tie, they will still be heavily fancied in some quarters of Europe to lift this season’s Champions League.

Betting on Bayern Munich

Domestically, betting on Bayern Munich to score plenty of goals is often beneficial. Already in 2013 they have scored four, five and six goals in a game on two occasions each and even put nine past Hamburg in one match – not to mention the four times in which they registered three goals in a match.

Like many of Europe’s elite, there’s not always good money available in betting markets when it comes to backing Bayern Munich outright in competitions. However, with the amount of goals they so often score, there are a lot of Bayern Munich betting markets in which there will always be money to be made.
