Yorkshire Ebor Festival Betting Tips

By Conor PhillipsRyan Air Chase Cheltenham 2014

The final day of York’s Ebor Festival is sure to be the best action of Saturday’s racing, with the Group 2, Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes the feature.

Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2)

The main race is sure to be a competitive one which may cause slight problems for those having a flutter. Parbold is the current market leader, with Coral offering the best price of 9/2. He finished third over 7f last time and the drop back to 6f will be interesting.

Wilshire Boulevard won a Group 3 at Curragh last time; however Saayerr seems to be the better choice here today. Cable Bay was beaten by him at Goodwood but is 3lb better off today so could well reverse that result.

Jamie Spencer is aboard My Catch, who won a Group 3 at Deauville last month and looks in good shape for another big run here. The conditions should suit and at 5/1 with BetVictor, he could be worth a punt.

Betfred City of York Stakes (Listed)

The first race of the day is the Betfred City of York Stakes which should be a fantastic race between some very good horses. Cristoforo Colombo is the market leader currently and Paddy Power are 5/2 best price for him.

He finished fifth in the 2,000 Guineas behind Dawn Approach, therefore a drop in grade will offer him another chance to shine again. This will not be easy though, as others looks slightly more appealing.

Rex Imperator won well at Goodwood in a 6f Handicap last time and this is ideal for him to repeat that performance. If so, he is sure to be thereabouts. Sirius Prospect and Set The Trend are two more with claims, however Glory Awaits warrants serious respect.

He finished second to Dawn Approach in the 2,000 Guineas and had today’s favourite behind, so he must be taken seriously.

Julia Graves Roses Stakes (Listed)

Outer Space is the 9/4 favourite for the Julia Graves Roses Stakes following his debut win at Sandown earlier this month. Excel’s Beauty is another sure to run well, whilst Hot Streak and Mecca’s Angel seem slightly more appealing.

The former won a 6f maiden here last month and the latter has won her last two in good style, which puts her in good shape for this. She is 9/2 with Ladbrokes which is decent value for this.

Havana Cooler and Great Hall make most appeal in the Betfred Melrose Stakes, with Ryan Moore booked to ride the former. He is the leading jockey in the race, therefore a big run is on the cards.

Hawk High and Elidor are decent outsiders that represent good value for money in the betting. They are 16/1 and 18/1 respectively with BetVictor so an each way bet may pay off.

Ryan Moore has strong claims in the Betfred Ebor at 3.50 too, as he rides the 7/1 favourite Opinion. Tiger Cliff ran over 2m4f last time so will be prepared for the drop in trip. He did win at Newmarket over this trip in the spring though, which gives him leading claims.

Caravan Rolls On and Ted Veale are two more who represent decent value and warrant respect.

Sennockian Star and Spirit Of The Law are the leading contenders in the Betfred The Bonus King Stakes and they both have a very good chance. The former is very consistent and will certainly be in the mix, whereas Fahey’s 4-year-old comes here on the back of a tidy win.

Rockalong handled the step up to 1m2f last time and this should be easier than at Newmarket, so everything points to a big run for him.

The Qipco Future Stars Apprentice Handicap will finish off the fabulous meeting in style, with many fantastic 3-year-olds battling it out. Hoofalong and Lexington Place make appeal, as do Cosmic Chatter and Angus Og.
