Australia vs England, The Waca, Perth – Friday 13th December 02:30 am

England take on Australia in the third Ashes test in Perth tomorrow knowing a loss will mean the Aussies win the Ashes for the first time since 2006.

Alastair Cook will play his 100th test in what will quite possibly be the most challenging match he has ever played for England.

The visitors have only managed one win at the Waca in 12 attempts and have lost eight of those games.

Only one ashes team has ever come back from 2-0 down to win the series. Don Bradman led his Australian side to a 3-2 victory back in 1936/37.

Betting wise, the obvious choice is for an Australian win. The hosts are best price 7/10 with Bwin, whilst England can be backed at as high as 5/1 with some leading firms.

Mitchell Johnson has had an outstanding series so far, taking 17 wickets in the first two games. He is as short as 6/4 to be top bowler on his home track, which still represents good value if he can continue his fine form, which is likely.

The terrific bowler is now an extremely short price of 4/9 to become player of the series.

Australia captain Michael Clarke will also play in his 100th test in the big match up, as he looks to make his 27th century. Clarke is the top batsman at present and needs 60 runs to become the sixth player to score 8000 test runs for Australia.

Ladbrokes are offering 3/1 for him to be the top Australian batsman in the third game and he is 9/2 to be the top overall batsman in Perth.

Ian Bell, Alastair Cook and Joe Root are both 4/1 in most places to be top England batsman, following some real poor performances from the high order in the first two games.

Stuart Broad is the very hot 2/5 favourite with leading firms to be England’s top bowler at The Waca, with the out of sorts James Anderson 3/1.

Australia are now as short as 1/12 to win the series, with England at a huge 30/1 to complete the feat. The draw is 12/1, however Australia seem to be getting better with each day of cricket and look set to win.

England are 9/1 to retain the Ashes, meaning they will need to win at least two of the three remaining games, whilst the Aussies are again 1/12 best price with Paddy Power.

For England not to win a single match during the series, Paddy Power are offering evens, whilst William Hill go 4/5 for Cook’s men to be victorious once.
