Both sides suffered defeats before the international break. If in Augsburg’s case the loss was expected and there was nothing they could do about it (played away at Bayern…), Hoffenheim’s last game was very disappointing, as they lost on home ground 3-2 to Hertha.
If offensively Hoffenheim can be feared be all teams in Bundesliga, defensively they have more holes than Swiss cheese… Upfront French striker Modeste seems to be in the form of his life (scored 6 goals in 12 games) and he constantly receives help from talented offensive players like Firmino or Voland.
Not to mention fullback Salihovic, the free-kick specialist, who can score from absolutely any position (scored twice last round).
But their playing style implies attacking in numbers and neglecting the defense, that is why they almost always concede. Hoffenheim is very young team, and young players often fail when it comes to marking (no matter if zonal-marking or man-marking). Considering that, there is no other option for Hoffenheim than try and outscore the opponent.
Augsburg play in a 4-5-1 system, but almost always it’s changed to 4-4-2 in 2nd half. But even when playing with 1 striker, all midfielders are often engaged in the offensive phase, leaving defenders to deal with incoming counters on their own.
This league is tough and Augsburg surely know that for being competitive they need all the points they can get, especially at home. That is why we will see them starting a siege from the 1st minute.
This should be an entertaining game, with many chances on both ends and at least 3 goals scored. Over 2.5 goals at 8/11 at Stan James is great bet that should pay way before the final whistle…
