Australia vs England – First ODI, MCG Melbourne – Sunday, 12th January 03:20 GMT
After completely dominating the Ashes test series, Australia are a tempting 6/1 with Bet Victor to repeat the feat and record back to back 5-0 whitewashes over England in the ODI series.
Michael Clarke and the Aussies’ will be without the test player of the series, Mitchell Johnson for the first ODI, which will surely relieve the England side who need a good start to regain some confidence.
Johnson was a constant threat throughout the test series, taking 37 wickets and baffling the England batsmen at times; however coach Darren Lehmann has chosen to rest him for the first test with the long-term future in mind for next year’s World Cup.
Australia are as short as 2/5 to win the series following their fantastic performance over the last few months. England are now 12/5 to win the series, with the draw 78/5.
The first ODI gets underway on Sunday in Melbourne and the Aussies are 8/15 favourites with Ladbrokes to get a wining start. The tourists are best price 7/4 with Coral, which is probably far too short for punters after watching the test series.
David Warner performed a number of fine innings to help Australia regain the Ashes and he is 7/2 favourite with Stan James to be top batsman for the hosts again in the ODI series.
England struggled massively as far as batting is concerned in the test series, therefore they will need the likes of Eoin Morgan to perform. Morgan is 11/2 with Stan James to be England top batsman.
As far as the first test is concerned, England will need to improve with not only the bat, but the ball also. Stuart Broad bowled the best of a bad bunch in the test series and represents good value at 3/1 with Stan James to be top England bowler in the first ODI.
As Australia are without Johnson, it may be worth a small bet on either Clint McKay or James Faulkner to be top bowler for the Aussies. They are both around 3/1 with most leading firms.
Another decent bet with the way the Australian batsmen ended the test series is for there to be a century in the match. Stan James offer a slightly tempting 11/10 best price for a player on either team to bag a ton.
Michael Clarke has led the Aussies with passion to their success and if they can perform to the same level in the first ODI, he represents good value for man of the match at 10/1 with Paddy Power.
BET OF THE DAY: David Warner to be Australia’s top batsman in first ODI at 7/2 with Stan James.
