The 2017 Long Walk Hurdle was renamed The JLT Reve De Sivola Long Walk Hurdle. The Long Walk Hurdle is named after an avenue of trees in Windsor Great Park. It was first run in 1965, and it was initially a handicap race. It became a conditions race in 1971, and it was given Grade 1 status in 1990. Prior to the redevelopment of Ascot Racecourse, which took place during the period 2004–06, the distance of the race was 3 miles and 1½ furlongs.

Historically the Long Walk Hurdle has been a good trial run for the World Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival in March, as four previous winners have gone on to claim victory in Cheltenham, including Big Buck’s in the 2009/10 season.
