Carl Froch vs George Groves – 8:00 pm Sky Box Office
The unified IBF and WBA super-middleweight champion Carl Froch faces 25-year-old George Groves in the ‘Battle of Britain’ world title fight in Manchester on Saturday night.
Froch is the big favourite going into the fight, with most firms as short as 1/4 for the champion. His opponent is 7/2 with Bet Victor which is decent odds.
The Cobra goes into the fight only having lost twice in his fine career that has seen him record 31 wins, with 22 knockouts. He was beaten by Mikkel Kessler when the pair first met, however turned the tables on their second fight earlier this year.
The only person he failed to beat was Andre Ward, who boasts a 27-0 record during his career and is ranked pound for pound number 2.
‘St George’ Groves cannot be easily ignored though. He has a sterling record of 19-0 and goes into this fight unbeaten. He has recorded 15 KO’s during his pathway to this fight and has a youth advantage over the favourite.
Groves may not have faced opponents as tough as Froch in the past, however he goes into the fight in the best shape possible and ready to win the championship.
The 1/4 odds suggest that backing against the favourite would not be a good idea, however other bets are tempting as this fight may not be as straightforward as expected.
Ladbrokes are offering the best price of 7/2 for Froch to win on points. The Nottingham born fighter has ‘promised’ he will ‘annihilate’ the youngster, however he has won a large number of his fights on points which symbolises a decent bet again here.
If Froch is to finish the fight before the end, I cannot see it being very early on in the fight, as Groves is sure to bring speed, energy and power early on where he is likely to try and win the first few rounds.
Groves stays hit once he has been hit and the power that Froch punches with will take its toll on the challenger, however he is sure to put up a good fight and some people are expecting a surprise.
Another good bet for what is sure to be a thrilling fight between two Brit’s who have had many feisty affairs since the announcing of the fight, is for Froch to win by decision or technical decision. This is again 7/2 with Ladbrokes and represents decent value.
