It’s the penultimate week of group stage action in the Champions League this week and it’s really hotting up for those knockout places.
Tonight’s games include Arsenal v Marseille, Celtic v AC Milan and Basel v Chelsea.
Arsenal v Marseille
Arsenal’s became the first side to beat Borussia Dortmund on their home soil, with the victory taking them back to the top of Group F.
And a win over Marseille tonight, who have not picked up a single point so far in the group, could seal their progress into the last 16 for the 14th consecutive season, if Napoli aren’t beaten by Dortmund.
The Premier League leaders have Mathieu Flamini back in their side from domestic suspension, with winger Theo Walcott likely to feature after playing in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Southampton.
After netting twice at the weekend, Olivier Giroud is my Bet of the Day for first goal scorer tonight, and Ladbrokes provide odds of 4/1 on that happening.
You can watch this game live from 7:45pm on ITV1.
Celtic v AC Milan
Celtic’s quest for European football into the new year continues tonight as they host Serie A strugglers AC Milan.
The seven times European Champions have made a poor start to their domestic campaign, and currently lie 13th. In Group H, they have just five points, and a Celtic win tonight would see them leap-frog the Italians into the second.
The Hoops are still to lose in the SPL this season and they will have James Forrest available following a hamstring injury. However midfielders Scott Brown and Nir Biton are both suspended.
The visitors are suffering an injury crisis, with Philippe Mexes, Sulley Muntari, Stephan El Shaarawy, Mattia De Sciglio and goalkeeper Marco Amelia all ruled out.
This match is live on Sky Sports 4 from 7:45pm.
Basel v Chelsea
A win for Chelsea in Switzerland tonight would guarantee their spot in the Champions League knockout stages in February.
They Blues were defeated by the Swiss champions on the opening game week but haven’t looked back since, winning their next three games whilst scoring ten and conceding none along the way.
Fernando Torres could feature for Chelsea tonight after recovering from an abductor injury that has kept him out of three games but David Luiz has not travelled due to a patella injury.
This match is live from 7:45pm on Sky Sports 2, and follows the day’s early kick off as Athletico Madrid visit Zenit St. Petersburg from 5pm.
