The Champions League returns this evening with both Manchester sides looking to get their respective campaigns off to the best possible start.
In addition, there’s another six group stage matches taking place this evening as teams from Group A to Group D begin their pursuit of Champions League glory.
Manchester United v Bayer Leverkusen
After a steady start to their Premier League season, David Moyes takes charge of his first European match for Manchester United as they face Bayer Leverkusen, who finished third in the Bundesliga last season.
But Moyes may well be without the services of both Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones who both missed training on Monday. Welbeck is struggling with a knee problem whilst and ankle injury could see Jones miss out.
Wayne Rooney will feature but will continue to wear a protective headband after gashing his head last week.
Their German opponents, who are managed by former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypiä, may be without key midfielder Lars Bender who is struggling with a hip problem.
In terms of match odds, United are big favourites to start their campaign off with three points and Bet Victor provide the best odds of 17/20. Stan James are just one of a host of bookies who are offering odds of 4/1 on a Leverkusen win.
The match is live on ITV 1 from 7:45pm.
Viktoria Plzen v Manchester City
The Champions League is the last remaining trophy still to be won by Manchester City. Could Manuel Pellegrini be the man to guide them to European glory this season?
Well, their campaign begins with a visit to the Czech Republic to play Plzen, the apparent ‘weak team’ in Group D.
And City could welcome back their skipper Vincent Kompany who has been out of the side for almost a month after picking up an injury in their opening Premier League match against Newcastle United.
However David Silva, Gael Clichy and Micah Richards are all doubts for this evening’s game.
Plzen are the Czech League champions, and have won six out of their first eight league games this season.
It is only their second adventure in the Champions League, having played in the group stage in the 2011/12 season, picking up only one win along the way.
This game is live on Sky Sports 2 from 7:45pm.
Other Champions League Games
Other eye-catching games this evening include Real Madrid’s visit to Galatasaray which will see Gareth Bale make his European debut for the Spaniards.
Real go into the game as favourites and Paddy Power offer the best odds of 7/10 on them picking up an opening day win. Betfred provide odds of 5/1 on a Galatasaray victory. This game is live on Sky Sports 4.
There are another five games on this evening including Olympiakos v Ligue 1 champions PSG and FC Copenhagen v Serie A Champions Juventus. To see a full run-down of betting odds comparisons, click HERE.
