The Champions League action continues this evening as Groups A-D play their second matches of the tournament.
The game of the evening sees 2013 Champions Bayern Munich travel to Manchester City whilst Manchester United have the long trip to Ukraine to face Shakhtar Donetsk.
Manchester City v Bayern Munich
For the second time in three seasons, Manchester City will again face Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage, a match that both sides know will be a tricky encounter.
City came out on top the last time the two met at the City of Manchester stadium, with goals from David Silva and Yaya Toure handing them a 2-0 win. Of course, City were unable to progress to the knockout stages after finishing that group in third.
David Silva could return to Manuel Pellegrini’s side this evening after recovering from a thigh injury he picked up during international duty whilst Sergio Aguero is also expected to be in the squad.
Both sides one their opening fixture in the group 3-0 but something will have to give tonight. City go into the game as underdogs with the bookmakers and Stan James offer the best odds on them winning at 11/5. The best price on a Bayern win is provided by Bet 365 at 29/20.
The game is live on Sky Sports 2 from 7:45pm.
Shakhtar Donetsk v Manchester United
David Moyes has come under early pressure for the start of his tenure at Old Trafford after a less than inspiring start to their domestic campaign, however their Champions League campaign did start on a positive note a fortnight ago when they beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2.
But they could face a difficult game this evening as they face Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk, who picked up an excellent 2-0 win at Real Sociedad in their opening match.
Robin van Persie is set to start for United this evening having featured as a sub in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to West Brom.
However, Rio Ferdinand misses out due to a groin strain whilst Anderson, Fabio and Wilfired Zaha have not travelled either and all miss out through injury.
Shakhtar have never lost to English opposition on home soil though, and they are slight favourites heading into the match. Bet 365 provide the best odds on them winning at 13/8 whilst the bets odds on a United victory are from Bet Victor at 19/10.
Watch the game live on Sky Sports 4 from 7:45pm.
Tonight’s Other Games
Other enticing games this evening include the Group B meeting between Serie A champions Juventus and Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray.
Both sides will be hungry for a win this evening after Juve were held to a draw at Copenhagen in the last game week whilst Galatasaray were smashed 6-1 by Real Madrid.
Elsewhere in Group B, Real Madrid host FC Copenhagen whilst in Manchester United’s group, Real Sociedad visit Bayer Leverkusen. The two Group C games are PSG v Benfica and Anderlecht v Olympiakos.
