The Darley July Cup is the feature race at Newmarket on Saturday in what is lined up to be a fantastic final day of action.
Darley July Cup (Group 1)
This year’s renewal of the race is as competitive as ever, with a number of top quality horses all in with a realistic chance. Shea Shea leads the betting at the moment at 4/1 with most bookmakers and is tipped to reverse positions with Sole Power, who beat him by a neck at Ascot last time.
Sole Power will not make that easy though, however he seems to perform best over 5f and the extra distance may cause him problems. Lethal Force beat both Society Rock and Krypton Factor at Ascot last time, but they could also reverse that result here in what is sure to be a difficult betting heat.
The interesting contender is Jersey Stakes winner, Gale Force Ten, who steps down in trip here with blinkers applied. O’Brien’s popular 3-year-old could have enough to make a strong bid and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him cause an upset at decent value of 13/2 with William Hill.
32Red.com Superlative Stakes (Group 2)
The 32Red.com Superlative Stakes is also a very interesting one that should supply punters with something to think about.
Six of the nine entries come here on the back of a win, but it is Saeed Bin Suroor’s Outstrip that is market leader at a fairly open 3/1 with Coral and Ladbrokes. He looked good when winning his C&D maiden three weeks ago and could improve for this.
Washaar, Good Old Boy Lukey, Somewhat and Vigor have all got solid claims so this one is extremely tough to call.
Somewhat may just have enough to win this though and at 11/2 with Stan James, he represents good value for money. Noble Metal is another that could be worth a small each way bet following a decent win at Leicester.
32Red Casino Handicap (Class 2)
Richard Hughes rides 9/2 shot Prince’s Trust in the 32Red Casino Handicap and the champion jockey will be hoping for more success here. The only worry is the lack of experience, but his last run was a comfortable win and further improvement puts him in with a very solid chance.
Defendant is another hot shot for this one who is expected to improve once more under Ryan Moore and the extra furlong should suit. He seemed to be improving when third last time so he is an interesting contender once more and may be the one to beat.
The 3:15, 32Red Bunbury Cup is probably the most wide open race of the entire meeting, with 6 horses all co-favourites at a long 10/1. It is a race that can be won by many of these, however Belgian Bill and My Freedom are most fancied in this fascinating contest.
Emirates Flyer makes plenty of appeal in the Rossdales EBF Conditions Stakes and should have enough to win this for Godolphin. Sacha Park is the biggest threat to the favourite who is available at Evens with Paddy Power.
Paddy Power are also offering the best price of 7/4 for Richard Hannon’s maiden who is expected to be very well suited to the move to 6f.
DUTCH COURAGE will take some beating in the Spa At Bedford Lodge Hotel Nursery and although Malachim Mist has good form on his side, carrying top weight could cause problems.
Finally, Havana Cooler and Pether’s Moon should both give good accounts in the last, whilst Cousin Khee represents good value.
Other top Quality racing is on offer from Ascot, Chester, Downpatrick, Tipperary and York, before the evening action gets underway at Hamilton and Salisbury from 6.25.
