England’s World Cup preparations get into full swing on Friday as they play their first friendly of the summer against Peru.
Elsewhere, Northern Ireland travel to Montevideo to play England’s Group D rivals Uruguay in the early hours of Saturday.
England v Peru Betting Tips
Roy Hodgson’s men have their first taste of action this summer with a friendly against Peru at Wembley, before they fly out to America at the weekend.
The three warm-up games are vital for the England boss to identify who deserves to be in the starting XI against Italy in Manaus, a fortnight Saturday.
The 23-man squad, along with the seven reserve players, returned from a hot-weather training camp in Portugal last week and have continued training in England this week.
Hodgson could choose to give a few of his more inexperienced players some game time in this match, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana and Ross Barkley having less than 10 international caps between them.
The only absentees from training earlier this week were Leighton Baines, who missed out due to family reasons, and James Milner who was absent with a cold – he is likely to start on the bench.
The Peru side long overdue a win, having played six games without victory. Their last win came in June last year when they beat Ecuador in World Cup qualifying, with their last fixture being a 1-1 draw against Bolivia in October.
England have only ever played the Peruvians, who are currently ranked at 43 in the world rankings, twice. The last meeting was a friendly way back in 1962, with a Jimmy Greaves hat-trick helping the Three Lions to a 4-0 win in Lima.
Anything short of a win would be a big stumbling block to England’s preparations and Paddy Power price a home win at 1/3. Bet Victor offer the best odds on a Peru win at 21/2, whilst a draw is priced at 9/2 with Bet 365.
BET OF THE DAY: A Daniel Sturridge anytime goal could be a good bet at 11/10 with Bet Victor.
Watch the match live on ITV1 from 8pm.
Uruguay v Northern Ireland Betting Tips
Uruguay were hit with the news that their star player Luis Suarez would have to have a minor operation on a knee injury last week, and faces a race against time to be ready for their first World Cup fixture against Costa Rica.
They’ll have to play their first friendly of the summer against Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland without him. The Ulstermen have endured a dire run over the last three years, picking up just one win in their last 20 matches, although it was a very credible victory over World Cup finalists Russia.
Live coverage of the match is available on the BBC Red Button from 12:30am on Saturday morning.
