The five days of fantastic racing action at Goodwood come to an end on Saturday in quite glorious Fashion. The Nassau Stakes is the feature race which sees the superb Sky Lantern in action once again; along with 6 other top quality races to complete an impressive card.
Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes (Group 1)
Sky Lantern has been phenomenal this season; beating Just The Judge twice to land the 1,000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes before finding Elusive Kate too good in the Falmouth.
She is the market leader for the Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes and Paddy Power are offering 9/4 for Richard Hannon’s filly. Integral has looked very exciting in her first two performances, winning a maiden and a listed event and the distance should help her here.
Ambivalent represents good value at 20/1 with Stan James following her Group 1 win in the Pretty Polly at Curragh. Sajjhaa is another who warrants respect at decent odds of 11/1.
Sky Lantern will take some beating in this; however Hot Snap (9/1) may bounce back and if so could cause problems, as can Integral (11/2) and Just The Judge (8/1).
Robins Farm Racing Stewards’ Cup (Class 2)
This year’s renewal of the Robins Farm Racing Steward’s Cup looks extremely fascinating. With 28 horses due to run and the favourite, Tropics, currently 10/1 with William Hill, it shapes for a thrilling encounter.
Dean Ivory’s 5-year-old comes here with some fantastic form, winning three of his last four and will run a good race for sure. Whozthecat is another who has been running fantastically, however both are under a penalty and will have to be at their very best.
Ninjago cannot be ignored due to the current form of Hannon and Hughes and at 11/1 with William Hill, looks a decent price with a chance of improvement.
York Glory and Heaven’s Guest both warrant respect and Racy has been in top form for Brian Ellison. The step up in trip should not be a problem either and at 16/1 with Paddy Power, he represents good each-way value.
The RAC Handicap looks to be another competitive contest with Bold Sniper currently 5/1 favourite with Stan James.
He has won 3 of his 5 races and looks likely to win again here; although Elidor, who defeated him at Ascot will run again under a 5lb penalty.
That penalty may prove too much for Mick Channon’s 3-year-old, although he cannot be ignored and represents fairly decent value at 9/1 with Stan James.
Royal Skies is the best of the Johnston trio and should be competitive, while Havana Cooler beat Pether’s Moon last time and should do again here. London Bridge was running fantastically before being beaten by Bold Sniper last time and should give a good account again.
Richard Hughes has chosen to ride War Spirit in the Natwest Ahead For Business EBF Maiden Stakes, allowing Ryan Moore to ride the impressive After The Goldrush who looked decent in his Salisbury maiden last week when he finished second.
War Spirit is very appealing and at 5/2 with BetVictor, obviously warrants respect. Snow Trouble finished third on his debut at Kempton and with Johnny Murtagh booked looks to have a good hand in this.
Golden Town, Tahadee and Gamesome are others to keep a close eye on in another fantastic race.
Richard Hannon saddles three in the Fairmont Nursery Handicap, with Art Official the best of those. Richard Hughes will ride him and so he definitely cannot be ignored. Mezel is the 9/2 favourite and ran well to win at Doncaster last time out, however further improvement is needed to take this.
The first race of the day will start the competitive day of racing off in good fashion, with 25 good horses set to battle it out over 6f. Picture Dealer warrants respect, as does Enrol, however a number of outsiders, including Piscean, will also give good accounts.
Holley Shiftwell is an obvious contender in the final race of Glorious Goodwood. She has won 3 of 5 completed races and can improve once more for this. Extrasolar cannot be ignored, whilst Shore Step and Lexington Place are others to consider in a fine race.
