The opening day of Glorious Goodwood is upon us and it is expected to be a superb start to the illustrious meeting, with high quality, competitive racing guaranteed.
bet365 Lennox Stakes (Group 2)
Aljamaaheer has solid Group 1 form and a recent victory in the Summer Mile makes him the market leader for the Lennox Stakes. He was beaten by today’s opponent Producer over this trip back in April but that was after an eight-month break. If he continues to improve how he has been he should be in with a very good chance at decent value of 3/1 with Paddy Power.
Richard Hannon’s pair of Producer and Professor both represent decent value at 5/1 (BetVictor) and 9/1 (Ladbrokes), however it is the latter that slightly catches the eye a little more. He is progressing well whilst 3-year-olds have a good record in this. Tom Queally rides him here and he will be hoping for similar success to last year’s race when he won aboard Chachamaidee.
Garswood ran well in the Jersey Stakes but is likely to need more here to compete with the likes of these and Ryan Moore has a task on his hands. Fencing is another one in contention, whilst the consistent Krypton Factor symbolises decent value at 14/1.
bet365 Molecomb Stakes (Group 3)
Supplicant leads the market for the Molecomb Stakes and has every chance of securing a win here. He finished second in the Windsor Castle last time and on that form looks better than the rest of these. He should improve once more and the rain forecast should be an added bonus, so 10/3 (Stan James) seems fair.
Anticipated has decent form and warrants respect under Richard Hughes; with the drop back to 5f expected to suit after tiring late on at 6f last time. Reroute and Ambiance both represent good value at 5/1 and 6/1 with most firms and Brown Sugar makes most appeal of the outsiders at 14/1 with Paddy Power.
The opening race of the day is sure to be a tricky one for punters, with Fast Or Free leading the betting at long odds of 13/2 with Bet365. Whispering Warrior’s form is obviously very appealing and if he continues to improve he is in with a great chance again here.
Mark Johnston’s Fennell Bay is another strong contender at decent value, whilst BetVictor’s 20/1 odds for Spirit Of The Law also look tempting as it may prove more sensible to bet low stakes on outsiders here.
Johnston has a very realistic chance once again in the Summer Stakes with both Oriental Fox and Sir Graham Wade both likely to run a big race. The former is currently 5/1 with Paddy Power and has a very good chance following his close second in the Northumberland Plate. Silver Lime and Clowance Estate are two more with strong claims at good value.
Sacha Park is 7/4 favourite with most firms and may be worth taking on in this wide open betting heat. If he is at his best and continues to improve he may well have enough, although Brazos, Mystique Rider and Munfallet all look very useful.
The final two races of the day are both hugely competitive and offer massive value to punters in what is sure to be two very tricky betting heats. Captain Cat and Desert Revolution make most appeal in the Poker At Bet365 Stakes and Jedward and Cruise Tothelimit look to have good chances in the last.
