IPL Final Preiew
Sunday afternoon sees the finale of the 2013 Indian Premier League as two-time champions Chennai Super Knights take on Mumbai in Calcutta.
Nine teams have been battling it out for a spot in this final since the early part of April and it’s fitting that these teams are the two finalists, after finishing first and second respectively in the regular league season.
It is also notable for being a repeat of the 2010 IPL final in which the Super Knights came out on top, winning the match by 22 runs.
The IPL is famous for its high intensity and mammoth scoring 20/20 format and this season has been another exciting watch for fans but the final also requires a certain amount of concentration with steady heads crucial for victory.
The Super Kings are on the search for their third IPL title after previously winning the competition in 2010 and 2011 and experienced players such as Michael Hussey and MS Dohni could prove to be the difference for the table-toppers.
Former Australian test international Hussey has undoubtedly been one of Chennai’s stars of the seasons with the 37 year old finishing as their top runs scorer this year, amassing a total of 732.
He is the bookie’s favourite to be Chennai’s top run scorer in the final and Boyle Sports are offering the best odds of 9/4 for that to happen on Sunday.
As for their opponents, Mumbai Indians beat Chennai on both their league meetings this season, the only team to do that to the Super Knights this campaign.
The first of the meetings came right back on the 6th April and an excellent 57 from West Indies’ Keiron Pollard helped the Indians to a total score of 148. Chennai came close to catching them but fell short by nine runs as Mumbai took the two points.
The next meeting was a far more dominant victory for Mumbai as they won by 60 runs. They recorded a total score of 139/5 in their 20 overs and kept a lid on the visitors, who were only able to make 79 before being bowled out after only 15.2 overs.
The pair also met in the play-offs but crucially the Super Knights came out on top with Hussey the star of the show, guiding his side to victory, making 86 in the progress.
The Indians had a second chance to make the final in Qualifier 2 and duly secured their spot in the big match, defeating fourth-placed Rajasthan Royals by four wickets.
The Super Knights are favourites with most bookmakers and Betfair are offering the best odds of 11/13 for them to secure their third title in four years on Sunday afternoon.
The Indians are evens with most bookies to secure the 2013 title but Boyle Sports are offering slightly better odds of 21/20 for a Mumbai victory.
