It hasn’t been a particularly enjoyable Christmas for either Malky MacKay or Steve Lomas who were both axed from their jobs at Cardiff City and Millwall respectively.
Those clubs join West Brom on the search for a new boss with a number of prospective candidates becoming available in recent weeks.
Next Cardiff Manager
The slowly deteriorating relationship between Malky MacKay and Cardiff owner Vincent Tan finally snapped on Friday as the Scot was sacked from his post at the Bluebirds after two and a half years in charge.
The early favourite for the job is former Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solksjaer who currently manages Molde in Norway. He has been tipped to return to England over the past few months with the various vacancies available but nobody has yet secured a deal with him. Coral offer the best odds of 5/6 in him taking becoming the new boss at the Cardiff City stadium.
Former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson is also amongst the front runners for the job. The Swede took his first managerial job at Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F, since leaving Leicester City in 2011. Bet Victor currently offer the best price on a Eriksson appointment at 11/2.
Turkish manager Yilmaz Vural has also been linked to the job although he has only ever managed within the country. In fact, he’s managed to lead a total of 21 different Turkish sides during his 27 years in the job and is currently being priced at 6/1 with Betfred.
Next West Brom Manager
It’s now been two weeks since the dismissal of Steve Clarke but West Brom today said they’ve stepped up their search for a replacement with the club balanced precariously a point above the drop zone.
The club ended talks with former Real Betis boss Pepe Mel on Friday but after his sacking from Cardiff, MacKay is the new favourite to quickly find a new job with Betfred offering the best odds of 7/4.
José Luis Mendilibar, who last managed La Liga side Osasuna before being sacked in September, is currently priced at 4/1 with Bet Victor to be given the job.
Solskjaer is the only other likely candidate for the job with Betfred offering the best price of 12/1.
Next Millwall Manager
Following three straight defeats, Steve Lomas was axed as manager of Millwall with the London side struggling in 20th place in the Championship.
Neil Harris has been placed as caretaker manager at the New Den and he’s currently 2/1 favourite with Bet Victor.
Next Sheffield Wednesday Manager
It’s almost been a month since the dismissal of Dave Jones and Milan Mandaric is still to appoint a replacement boss.
Ex- Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway is currently the favourite to take the job with Coral offering odds of 2/1.
Caretaker manager Stuart Gray is the only other frontrunner for the job with SkyBet providing the best price of 9/4.
