Mexico’s Europe-based players are playing again

Mexico’s Europe-based players are playing again !! Not so long ago, Juan Carlos Osorio was very concerned with the fact that his key Europe-based players were not getting regular playing time for their clubs ahead of Russia 2018. With the arrival of David Moyes at West Ham, Javier Chicharito Hernandez was struggling for minutes, while Hector Moreno wasn’t in the starting line-up at Roma. Miguel Layun and Raul Jimenez have both failed to earn a starting spot with Porto and Benfica, so Osorio admitted that the situation surrounding Mexico’s important players had him worried about El Tri’s chances at the World Cup.

However, the situation seems to be improving. Even though Chicharito sought a transfer unsuccessfully last month, because the change of manager had stagnated his progress at the club, the Mexican forward is smiling again, due to the fact that he started the last four matches for the Hammers, scoring three goals in the process. During the last couple of weeks, Hernandez became one of the key members of the squad, alongside Marko Arnautovic.

As for Miguel Layun, who had found minutes difficult to come at Porto, he decided to join Sevilla on a loan deal with the option to buy and already made a debut playing at right back for the entire 90 minutes, although his new team suffered a severe loss against Eibar. Layun had consulted Osorio before he went to Sevilla, and the Colombian manager believes that Layun made the right choice. The former Atletico National coach believes that PSV’s Hirving Lozano could be the star of the upcoming tournament, because his first European season is simply excellent. The former Pachuca hitman has already scored 13 goals in Eredivisie, adding 9 assists to his name in his 21 appearances.

After only five appearances in the current season, Hector Moreno left Roma and joined Real Sociedad as a substitute for Inigo Martinez, who moved to Athletic Bilbao. Moreno will definitely get more playing time in Spain and could get in the right form for the upcoming World Cup in Russia. Raul Jimenez started 2018 with two goals for Benfica and finally Juan Carlos Osorio can be happy, as well as the fans, since the situation seems to be improving ahead of the summer. El Tri will have a difficult task getting to the knockout stage, since they are facing Germany, South Korea and Sweden, but Juan Carlos Osorio is confident that his forces will be among the top two of Group F.
