Newmarket Horse Racing Betting Tips

The Piper-Heidsieck July Festival gets underway at the magical Newmarket Racecourse in what is sure to be another thrilling meeting full of exhilarating action matched with a phenomenal atmosphere for racing fans and punters.

Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (Group 2)

The Princess Of Wales’s Stakes is the latter of the two Group 2 races on the card and is shaped up to be a hugely competitive encounter which will make for difficult betting.

UNIVERSAL has looked majorly impressive this season and could get back to winning ways after a decent third last time if he is allowed to dominate. He is currently 9/2 best price co-favourite with Paddy Power, along with Cumani’s Danadana and Saeed bin Suroor’s Cavalryman.

All three are very much a danger, but De Sousa’s ride will have to improve on the below average fifth at Sandown last time out. Danadana has excuses for his recent fifth as the slow ground caused major problems, but the ground should suit to a tee this time giving him every chance of success.

Double Group 1 winner, Wigmore Hall, is another who warrants respect whilst Wild Coco is a multiple group winner over further against her own sex. Grandeur, like Universal will have to overcome a penalty and bring his best form to be in with a chance in this super challenging event.

Portland Place Properties July Stakes (Group 2)

A P O’Brien’s Sir John Hawkins is the 9/4 (Bet365) market leader in the Portland Place Properties July Stakes, following a fair debut win at Curragh and a respectable third to stable mate War Command at Ascot last time.

That gives him leading claims here, although a number of his challengers will be more than up for the task, including Richard Fahey’s interesting contender, the well-fancied, CANYARI.

He was impressive on his debut at Doncaster back in May and with the break he has had, looks a very interesting contender at decent value; best price 13/2 with Boylesports.

Figure Of Speech had no problem beating today’s opponent Whaleweigh Station over this distance last time and should give a good account again. Richard Hannon enters both Anjaal and Brown Sugar who come here on the back of relatively easy maiden wins, but slight improvement is needed if the trainer’s success in this is to continue.

Bahrain Trophy (Group 3)

John Gosden has won the Bahrain Trophy on the previous two occasions and he and Buick will be hoping for a similar race to last year’s winner, Shantaram. Feel Like Dancing is this year’s entry for the yard and Stan James are offering the best odds of 7/2 for him.

DARE TO ACHIEVE is the leading contender for William Haggas after winning his maiden at Pontefract last time. Hughes was impressed on that occasion, which indicates he has a good chance of more success here. Testudo won a decent race last time, but finished behind Dare To Achieve before that in a race which Remote won.

Matrooh and Tarikhi are both leading contenders for the Download Our App Handicap, whilst Soviet Rock could find his best form and compete at decent value; 12/1 with William Hill.

Hannon’s Oriel is the hot favourite in the Three Chimneys EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes and sets the standard, however Qawaasem should improve on her debut third and could be in strong contention. Charles Hills has some good Juvenile Fillies’ this season and if she is at her best, she stands a good chance.

I cannot see beyond MONTIRIDGE in the Insure Pink Stubbs Stakes at 4.25. He was just beat at Ascot last time but looks to have a decent advantage on the rest of these. Alhebayeb is the main danger but will need to improve.

AVON BREEZE is well-fancied for the final race of Ladies’ Day. She has been progressive all year and if that continues, she will be very hard to beat. Rebecca Romero and Doctor Parkes also warrant respect.

Meeting’s at Doncaster and Warwick are also taking place throughout the afternoon, before Bath, Epsom and Leopardstown supply punters with some decent evening action from 6pm.
