Super Bowl XLVIII – Sun, Feb 2 23:30
The 48th Super Bowl sees the very first time the best offense and defense will face each other in a Super Bowl. The Denver Broncos, led by veteran Quarter Back Peyton Manning, are in fact the best offensive team in NFL history, becoming the first team to score over 600 points. The Seahawks led the NFL in points allowed, total defense, pass defense, takeaways, interceptions and turnover differential. Running Back Marshawn Lynch is the star on offense, being the only RB to run for 1000+ yards and 10+ touchdowns in 3 consecutive seasons. The Met Life Stadium in New Jersey is subject to weather concerns, which would see the advantage slide to Seattle’s run game, but forecasts have varied and on the whole improved as we get closer to the game. As a side note, Manning is 0-4 in the post season when weather conditions are below 40 degrees. Key aspects to look out for are how Seattle defends the pass, how Denver defend Marshawn Lynch, and the weather conditions throughout the game.
The Seahawks go in at 23/20 outsiders with bet victor whilst the Broncos are clear 5/6 favourites with Ladbrokes. The pick of the anytime touchdown scorers for Seattle have to be Marshawn Lynch at 4/7 with Bet365, Jermaine Kearse, a nice outsider at 5/2, also with Bet365 and Percy Harvin, by far Seattle’s best receiver but has injury issues. He’s 23/10 with Paddy Power. For Denver, Demaryius Thomas is 11/10 with William Hill and leads the Broncos in receiving touchdowns, whilst running back Knowshon Moreno has excelled this season, he’s 11/10 with Bet365. In player betting, Peyton Manning is 1/2 with Ladbrokes to throw two touchdowns, whilst Richard Sherman is 2/1 to have an interception on the game with Betfred. MVP betting is led predictably by Peyton Manning, 11/10 with Ladbrokes, followed by Russell Wilson at 7/2 with William Hill and Marshawn Lynch at 5/1 with Boylesports. If Richard Sherman can back up his trash talk, he’s 33/1 with Paddy Power, although it seems only some sort of meltdown from Manning will lose him the award. In halftime betting, Denver are 19/20 with Bet365, Seattle are 5/4 with William Hill and the draw is 8/1 with Bet365. The winning margin betting is strong starting with Denver. To win by 1-10 or 1-13 is 6/4 and 13/10 with Paddy Power, or if you fancy a close game, their 7/2 to win by 1-6 with Bet Victor. Seattle are 7/4 and 6/4 to win by 1-10 and 1-13 with Paddy Power, or 4/1 to win by 1-6 with Bet Victor. The game to have over or under 48.5 points are both 10/11 with Bet365.
Fancy a go at some non-football halftime bets? Bruno Mars headwear is a popular choice, 8/11 for a fedora, 12/5 for no hat, 7/2 for a beanie or 8/1 for fur, all with Paddy Power.
BET OF THE DAY – Seattle to win by 1-6, 4/1 Bet Victor
