What is Asian Handicap Betting?

Don’t be put off by people telling you Asian Handicap betting is complicated it’s not. But it is a great way of betting on a game that might otherwise be one sided. Also with only 2 outcomes you have a 50% chance of winning rather than 3 outcomes at 33.3%.

Not all bookmakers bet on Asian Handicaps but Bet365 and BetVictor are two of our more popular bookmakers to use when placing a bet on the football using this method. The handicap is where the underdog or less fancied team is a given a number of goals head start for betting purposes. In most cases the odds are often shown in decimal format.

Asian Handicap Betting – Single Asian Handicap Bets

As an Example you will see Manchester United – 1.00 vs Liverpool + 1.00 so if Man Utd win 2-0 any bets on them are winners. If the score was 1-0 to Man Utd the scores are considered level and you get your stake refunded.

Another example would be Manchester united -0.5 v Liverpool +0.5 in this case if Manchester win by any amount all bets on them are winners, but if the game is a draw or Liverpool win all backers of Liverpool are winners.

Common handicaps applied are 0:0 , 0.5, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75 and 2.0

Team giving a 1/4 ball start (-0.25)

Win by any score – All bets on this selection are winners

Draw – Half the stakes are refunded on this selection. The other half of the stake is classed as a loser

Lose by any score – All bets on this selection are losers

Team receiving a 1/4 ball start (+0.25)

Win by any score – All bets on this selection are winners

Draw – Half the stake is settled at the price of the chosen selection. The other half is refunded to the customer

Lose by any score – All bets on this selection are losers

Double Asian Handicap Bets

These are also known as 1/4 ball or split handicaps. This method of placing football handicaps is used to split a bet into two so for example Leeds United (-1/2,-1) at 2.00 v Bradford City (+1/2 + 1) at 4.1 So if you have £10 on Leeds United £5.00 of it is laced on Leeds minus half a goal and £5.00 on Leeds -1 goal.

So therefore if Leeds United win 1.00 I will collect my two bets as winners £5.00 at 2.00 = £10 back the minus one bet has been cancelled out in effect a draw so I get my £5.00 stake back so overall I made a profit of £5.00.  We hope you found our guide to Asian Handicap Betting useful.
