This year’s renewal of the superb Dante Festival goes ahead from York on Wednesday, in what is shaped up to be a thrilling potential-packed day of racing.
Liber Nauticus is the leading contender for the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes, following her gutsy debut win under Kieren Fallon at Goodwood last year. She is currently around 5/1 with most bookmakers for the Oaks, indicating that she is a very hot prospect and could be too good for the rest of them here. She is as short as 8/11 best price with SkyBet and Woodland Aria presents better value at 9/2 with a number of bookmakers.
John Gosden’s 3-year-old ran well at Wolverhampton on her debut and William Buick will be hoping to secure a back-to-back double in this race after winning aboard The Fugue last year. Romantic Settings represents good each-way value if she can improve for this, currently at 16/1 best price with Boylesports.
The Duke Of York Clipper Logistics Stakes is the other class 1 race, with Mince and Tickled Pink the favourable options. Mince was ever-improving during 2012 and comes into this race on the back of a fine win at Ascot in October. Tickled Pink was impressive on her reappearance at Newmarket and poses a massive threat to Roger Charlton’s favourite, who is entered in some of the top sprints later on this season. Maarek is another in with a chance whilst those representing value are Swiss Spirit, Gordon Lord Byron and Ladies Are Forever.
The first race of the meeting is the Infinity Tyres Handicap, which is likely to be a tricky one for punters. First Mohican and Lahaag were both well beaten last time, however they have the potential to compete for this excusing recent runs. Clayton ran a good second at Epsom on his reappearance and can challenge, whilst Ruscello and Silvery Moon add depth to this wide open contest.
York Glory and Nocturn are two that lead the betting for the eighteen-entry Infinity Ecosis Tyres Handicap. The former won well last time under Neil Callan and should be in with a good chance again if at his best. Nocturn faces his toughest task here, but after a winning double at Windsor, cannot be ignored. Last year’s winner Secret Witness is 9lb higher and is unlikely to be involved, whilst Louis the Pious, El Viento and Tarooq symbolise good value.
Marcus Tregoning is in search of a double in the Constant Security Stakes with Opera Box a leading contender. She has improved with each appearance and the distance should suit, whilst Guising and Northside Prince offer good value in a difficult race.
Extortionist is well regarded for young trainer Olly Stevens, as is Haikbidiac who won nicely at Doncaster, both of whom can challenge the market leader, Steventon Star in the 4.25.
The final race offers decent value in what is expected to be an extremely competitive race. Mundahesh is an interesting prospect in with a chance, whilst Line Of Reason, Right Touch and George Rooke all make good appeal.
